The Birds of Derbyshire

Derbyshire to many visitors is synonymous with Britain's most visited National Park, The Peak District, almost all of which lies within the county. The spectacular White and Dark Peak landscapes are one of the main visitor attractions. The Park contains a wide variety of flora and fauna of which birds are of particular interest. To county residents and more regular visitors, however, Derbyshire birding offers much more than just the Peak District. Very different landscapes and habitats to the east and south are home to a birdlife contrasting with that found in the Peak District. This book, the result of almost 20 years of endeavour by the Derbyshire Ornithological Society.

Birds of Derbyshire

From inside jacket;- (Written 1978)
This is the first definitive book on Derbyshire's birds for over eighty years during which there have been great avifaunal changes, resulting largely from habitat alteration and improved observation. The bulk of this book is naturally devoted to a systematic list of more than 270 species recorded in modern times, while the appendices include details of unacceptable records and fossil birds. The records of the Derbyshire Ornithological Society have been fully utilised, as have the results of important recent surveys such as the BTO Atlas and common bird census.A modern history of bird study in the county helps put the records into perspective.
