Fuaran na Fenne is one of several freshwater lochs situated close to the A86 lying in the spey floodplain.This loch and it's surrounding areas can be scanned from the roadside by telescope. The A86 between Balgowan and Baillaid offers visting birdwatchers a fascinating variety of habitats with the north side of the road steeply forested with towering areas of cliffs (popular with climbers) such as Creag Bheag Uvie, Ceann an Fhamhair and Cluny's cave. If you are looking to explore away from the regular and popular birding sites on Speyside this area is well worth stopping on route to Loch Garten, Cairngorm etc.

Breeding goldeneye, and grebes including slavonian are possible, osprey visit , woodlands have redstart, tree pipit, wood warbler with conifer felled areas holding whinchat (inset picture) , cuckoo etc. There are numerous spectacular cliffs with breeding peregrine , with other raptors always possible in good numbers.

The A 86 is a busy road with numerous timer lorries so careful parking is advised.
