Handa Island

Birdwatching at Handa Island Scotland. Free guide to the UK's best birdwatching sites

Formerly an RSPB reserve and now run by the Scottish Wildlife Trust, Handa is the summer home to over 100,000 breeding seabirds including razorbill, guillemot, puffin and both Arctic and Great Skua (main picture).

Gigantic Torridonian sandstone cliffs rise from the Atlantic on the north west coast giving the island perfect breeding areas.

There is a pedestrian ferry service to Handa Island which runs on demand from Tarbet on the mainland during the visitor season (from early April to late August/early September ). Tarbet is signposted from the A894 about 3 miles north of Scourie and 3 miles south of Laxford Bridge.
