Loch Vaa / Avielochan

Birdwatching at Loch Vaa Scotland. Free guide to the UK's best birdwatching sites

Loch Vaa is located between Boat of Garten and Aviemore in the Cairngorms National Park. It is used for fishing, swimming and boating and its wooden boathouse is a popular location for tourists and photographers. There is a parking area next to Laggantygown Cemetery (A95). A series of fotpaths circle the lake and it is an extremely quiet and picturesque location. Although it would not be classed as one of Speyside's top birdwatching sites, it has produced slavonian grebe (inset picture) over the years and there is always the possibility of osprey and divers / wildfowl.

Worth a quick stopover at both of this site and Avielochan if visiting the other birdwatching locations in this area. Avielochan is situated next to the A95 just north of Aviemore.
