Mt Hartman area

Grenada Dove Leptotila wellsi (Grenada's single endemic)
is endangered and lives in only 2 habitats on the island. Before Hurricane Ivan there were approximately 80 in the Mt Hartman area and twenty at Perserverence, but there are no reports as to their numbers since.
Near scenic Woburn Bay and Secret Harbor lies the protected dry cactus scrub ecosystem supporting the endangered endemic Grenada Dove (only found in Grenada - Lepotila wellsi). The savanna-like flat grassland areas were previously used for grazing livestock and agricultural products. The dove is currently considered one of the most endangered birds in the world; less than 100 of the species remain. Conservation of the dove, ecological research, and education are the primary management objectives of the National Park. Ancient plantation ruins with radiant vistas of the coastline will enthrall you. Secluded peninsula beaches and hiking trails will allow you to take full advantage of the impressive natural surroundings. The Mt. Hartman Dove Sanctuary provides a chance to learn more about this endangered dove and how we can ensure its protection for present and future generations.
